Saturday night saw over 200 people gather from across Oxfordshire and beyond to celebrate and recognise the achievements of the young people that Thrive Teams have been working with over the past few years. Some of the young people there on the night have been involved with Thrive Teams for more than seven years.
Focusing on the talent, courage and resilience of Oxford’s brilliant young people it was great to have so many family, friends, mentors, volunteers, supporters and investors gathered to hear inspiring stories of young people realising their full potential.
With dancers from South Abingdon, artists from The Leys, and banter from Barton’s Patrick and Lily, the young people showed the kind of energy and creativity that will take them far.
Planet IT founders Sean Smith and Gavin Jones spoke inspiringly about their own journey from Blackbird Leys to providing IT services to Buckingham Palace, and encouraged the young people,
‘You’ve got to aim high. With good people around you, your confidence can grow and help you get where you need to be.’
That’s advice Young Achiever of the Year, Kyle, is already acting on.
A gifted footballer and young leader, Kyle’s generous investment in encouraging his team to excel made him a worthy winner of this year’s award.
You can tune in to a specially extended show on BBC Radio Oxford this Thursday 24th October, 7-10 pm, to hear more from Kyle and our other award winners and sponsors, recorded during Saturday’s dinner.
