Thrive Teams partner with several local schools, which helps support our work with the young people we are working with. We caught up with South Abingdon youth worker, Rebecca, to hear what’s been happening recently with a particular group of 13 year old girls, and how they ended up on stage!
‘A year ago, we started chatting with a group of girls in the local secondary school playground. Although initially reluctant to open up about their lives, over the weeks that followed the girls began to attend our cooking club and gaming club where we play games, create dance routines and cook yummy food together. These clubs really help build relationships and community with the girls, creating a sense of belonging. Our wonderful group of volunteers who help facilitate these clubs saw the changes in these girls; how they had grown in confidence and self-belief.
‘It has been amazing to see them ask for mentoring, and want to make positive changes in their lives. As youth workers and volunteers, we have been really excited by the changes we have witnessed in the lives of these girls.
A recent highlight was seeing a few of them perform a dance routine on stage at our Young Achievers’ Dinner in October – a real sign of how they’ve grown in confidence.’
Please pray for these girls as we continue to work with them to develop their leadership potential.
