Urgent Appeal: Ukrainian churches asking for help

Konstantin's church is helping their community in a new and vital way. But more churches need help to do this.

Konstantin is pastor of a church in Mykolaiv, only an hour from Ukraine’s front line. The city came close to being occupied and it is badly damaged. Water and electricity shortages have made life for many a fight for survival.  Konstantin says,

People are very, very tense. This has been going on for two and a half years. There is no relief.

UNICEF reports that 6 million Ukrainians have limited or no access to safe water. Konstantin’s church knew they should act.

Giving water to thirsty people

The team knew about an underground water course. They dug down deep and found a way to pump good water up, with the help of a generator. They covered the church roof with storage tanks so that, even when the power is off, the water still flows. Innovista supporters like you helped this to happen.

For the last year, even amidst this week’s missile attacks and blackouts, they have kept the water flowing.

Finding more than water

In the past, the church baptised around 3 people each year. Outreach was hard.

Now, hundreds of people come to the church every day to get safe and clean water. As well as practical help, they are given the chance to connect with the church and hear about Jesus.

So far this year, 30 people have found faith and been baptised. One man, Aleksander (name changed), said, I’d never come to church before, but I came for the good water”.

God is at work, even in wartime. Your support is bringing help and hope. Churches like this need your support to continue.

Facing a third winter

Konstantin is worried. This week the city has been hit again with missiles and drones. “The enemy is trying to make it impossible for us to live through the winter. But with your help we will continue to bring the hope of Jesus to our community.”

We’re working with over 100 churches like Konstantin’s across Ukraine. Even more are asking for help. Please give today.

A gift of £50 could help a struggling leadership team find an innovative solution to an urgent community need.

Please help churches like Konstantin’s find creative and practical ways to show God’s love to their communities.
